Injectables

Neuromodulator Questions

Neuromodulators are wrinkle-relaxing injections of botulinum toxin – commercially known as Botox Cosmetic, Dysport, Xeomin or Jeuveau – that are used to treat wrinkles, frown lines and crow's feet.

Unlike dermal fillers, neuromodulators don't fill wrinkles from beneath. Botox (and the others) instead address “dynamic” wrinkles. These are wrinkles that form as the result of a muscle contraction under the skin. These wrinkles form when we make expressions such as smiling, frowning, squinting, and others.

You can begin to see results as soon as 48 hours after your treatment, and the lines may continue to fade up to two weeks afterward. The effects can last up to 3-6 months. The effects of neuromodulators will gradually wear off over time until the treated area regains full movement again. This is when you will know it's time to have the area retreated.

Typically, clients will receive their follow-up appointments every 3-6 months as needed.

In an ideal situation, it is important to follow some simple guidelines before treatment that can make all the difference between a fair result or great result, by reducing some possible side effects associated with the injections.

We realize this is not always possible; however, minimizing these risks is always desirable.

  • Client must be in good health with no active skin infections in the areas to be treated
  • Clients should discuss any needle phobia and pain management with the administering provider prior to treatment.
  • Avoid alcoholic beverages for 24 hours prior to treatment. Alcohol may thin the blood, which will increase the risk of bruising.
  • Avoid anti-inflammatory / blood thinning medications ideally, for a period of 1 weeks before treatment. Medications and supplements such as Aspirin, Vitamin E, Gingko Biloba, St. John’s Wort, Ibuprofen, Motrin, Advil, Aleve, Vioxx, and other NSAIDS are all blood thinning and can increase the risk of bruising/swelling after injections.
  • Schedule your appointment at least 2 weeks prior to a special event which may be occurring, i.e., wedding, vacation, etc. Results typically begin to take effect approx. 5 days following treatment, and may take 2 weeks to reach their full effect. Bruising may last up to several days or occasionally weeks following injections.
Below are guidelines to follow after your “botox” (Botox, Xeomin, Dysport) treatment. “Botox” treatment targets specific muscles of the face and neck to cause them to relax. Though side-effects are never completely avoidable, to minimize your risk of side-effects such as ptosis (drooping of the eyelids or eyebrows), or relaxation of other undesirable muscles, please follow these guidelines:

  • No exercise, heavy lifting or straining for 4 hours following treatment. The toxin takes approximately 2 hours to bind to the nerve and start its work. We do not want to increase circulation to that area to wash away the “botox” from where it was injected.
  • Avoid manipulation of the treatment area for 4 hours following treatment. (For the same reasons listed above.) This includes any facial waxing, threading, facials, lasers, peels, or microdermabrasion for up to 24 hours following treatment with “botox”. A facial, peel, or microdermabrasion can be done on the same day/appointment only if they are done BEFORE the “botox”.
  • Ideally, wait 4 hours before applying makeup to avoid manipulating the treatment area and clogging injection sites with oils/bacteria. However, clean makeup may be applied GENTLY following treatment if necessary.
  • Avoid sun and heat exposure (including sun bathing, sauna, hot yoga, etc) for 24 hours following treatment as this may denature the active ingredient rendering the treatment less or non-effective.
  • Facial exercises in the injected areas are recommended for 1-hour following treatment. This is to stimulate the binding of the toxin only to the localized treatment area.
  • It can take 2 - 14 days to take full effect. It is recommended that the client contacts the office if any unexpected side effects occur. If the desired effect is not achieved after 2 weeks, please do not hesitate to contact the studio to speak with the treating provider.
  • Additional treatments may be needed after 2 weeks to achieve the desired effect. This is normal as we develop your treatment plan, especially if you are a new client. Please call the studio to book a follow up appointment.

Minimal discomfort is normal. Bruising or swelling are also common. For those who are receiving lip injections, you will be numbed for 15 minutes prior to your appointment to ensure your comfort. No numbing is required for other injection services.

dermal filler questions

Dermal filler injections are a type of nonsurgical cosmetic procedure. Dermal fillers plump up wrinkles, smooth lines, and restore volume in your face. Dermal fillers are injected under your skin.

People choose to get dermal fillers to enhance their facial features or gain a more youthful appearance. This elective treatment usually takes less than half an hour, and recovery time is minimal.

You may choose to get dermal fillers to:

  • Add volume to the area of the face where it has been lost due to the aging process.
  • Make your facial features more symmetrical.
  • Plump up lips and cheeks.
  • Smooth wrinkles and creases in your face.

Results are seen right away. Fillers are not permanent. How long they last depends on things like the type of filler and where it's injected. They usually last between 6 and 18 months.

A few simple guidelines before your treatment can make a difference between a good result and a fantastic one.

  • Clients should be in good overall health. A full medical history must be performed on all patients for optimal results.
  • Please let us know if you are prone to cold sores – a pre-operative medication may help prevent cold sores after treatment.
  • If you develop a cold sore, blemish, or rash, etc prior to your appointment, you must call to reschedule. Please give at least 48 hour notice prior to canceling/rescheduling your appointment. If you have any concerns that you are not sure about, please do not hesitate to call us for clarification.
  • If you have a special event or vacation coming up, schedule your treatment at least 2 weeks in advance. This will allow time for the swelling and bruising to dissipate in order for you to see the full effect of your results.
  • Avoid Aspirin, Motrin, Gingko Biloba, Garlic, Flax Oil, Cod Liver Oil, Vitamin A, Vitamin E, or any other essential fatty acids at least 3 days to 1 week before and after treatment. This will help to minimize bruising and swelling.
  • Discontinue Retin-A two (2) days before and two (2) days after treatment.
  • Try to avoid alcohol, caffeine, niacin supplements, high-sodium foods, high sugar foods, refined carbohydrates (you may eat fruit), spicy foods, and cigarettes 24-48 hours before and after your treatment.
  • Do not schedule any facials, facial waxing/threading, peels, lasers, microdermabrasion for at least 24 hours after your treatment.
Below are guidelines to follow after your dermal filler (Juvederm, Restylane, Revanesse, etc) treatment. Filler treatment targets volume loss, wrinkles and folds, lip volume, and facial asymmetries. Though side-effects are never completely avoidable, to minimize your risk of side-effects such as bruising, swelling, or drifting of filler beyond treatment area, please follow these guidelines:

  • DO NOT touch, press, rub or manipulate the implanted areas for the rest of the day after treatment. Avoid kissing, puckering and sucking movements for the rest of the day as these motor movements can undesirably displace the implanted dermal filler material. You can cause irritation, sores, and/or problems, and possible scarring if you do.
  • AVOID Aspirin, Motrin, Gingko Biloba, Garlic, Flax Oil, Cod Liver Oil, Vitamin A, Vitamin E, or other essential fatty acids at least 3 days after treatment.
  • AVOID alcohol, caffeine, niacin supplement, high-sodium foods, high sugar foods, refined carbohydrates (you may eat fruit), spicy foods, and cigarettes 24-48 hours after your treatment.
  • AVOID vigorous exercise and sun and heat exposure for at least 3 days after treatment.
  • DISCONTINUE Retin-A for 2 days after treatment. It is best to wear no makeup or lipstick until the next day. Earlier use can cause pustules.
  • One side may heal faster than the other side causing the appearance of temporary asymmetry.
  • You can expect some bruising and swelling around the areas that were injected. Apply ice for the first hour after treatment for ten minutes on and ten minutes off.
  • Wait a minimum of 2 weeks before any enhancements are made to allow any swelling to completely resolve.
  • ***Please report any abnormal pain, blanching of the skin at the site of treatment or around the same area, redness, blisters, or itching immediately if it occurs after treatment.***

Sculptra® questions

As a poly-L-lactic acid (PLLA) collagen stimulator, Sculptra helps restore the deep, underlying structure of the skin to diminish facial wrinkles. Sculptra works with your body within the deep dermis to help revitalize collagen production and help restore your skin’s inner structure and volume. When Sculptra PLLA microparticles are injected into the skin they are absorbed, and help stimulate collagen production. Rebuilt collagen strands begin gradually helping to restore facial volume and the look of fullness to wrinkles and folds.

Unlike typical dermal fillers, Sculptra® does not add immediate volume. While some people may only need one Sculptra® treatment, others will need two or three. You may start to notice results three to four months after your first treatment. Results will continue to improve for up to six months after your final session. The number of sessions needed depends on how much collagen we seek to restore. Since all of us lose collagen in different ways as we age, Sculptra® offers customizable options.

Most dermal fillers fade as the body eliminates the material. Sculptra® results last longer because it causes the body to produce its own collagen. The production of collagen continues for months after treatment. Sculptra® results can last two years or more between touch-ups. Collagen will naturally fade over time, and our aging process does not stop, so you will need occasional maintenance treatments to keep lines and wrinkles looking smoother. We recommend a touch up annually for best outcomes.

Sculptra® treatments only take about 15 minutes, and you can return to your usual activities immediately. You will not require any downtime after your injections. Some people notice minor swelling, redness, or bruising after treatment. The most common complaint is tenderness in the areas that are treated. You can use makeup to cover this after about four hours, and these effects will fade within a few days.

Anyone who wants to slow down the aging clock and look as youthful as they feel is encouraged to give this treatment a try. Since it works by getting deep within the patient’s dermis, it targets signs of aging at the source. This makes it ideal for any folds or wrinkles, deep or shallow. Rather than changing things drastically, this treatment is all about a gradual, natural improvement to the patient’s facial skin. It also produces satisfyingly long-lasting results.

A patient in their 30s who wants to slow down the aging process and get ahead of deep wrinkles would benefit greatly. A patient in their 60s wanting to reverse aging and restore their skin to its original elasticity would benefit just as significantly. Patients in any age range will get natural results. The secret to this is encouraging the body’s natural collagen-producing process to expedite. Your body does all the work, we just motivate it with the right tools!

Kybella® questions

Kybella® is a prescription injectable medication used to reduce moderate to severe fat beneath the chin. Submental fullness is common among both men and women. Unfortunately, under-chin fat is typically non-responsive to diet and exercise. Kybella® is the only FDA-approved injectable for treating fat below the chin.

Kybella® works by using synthetic deoxycholic acid to break down the fat cells in the body. Deoxycholic acid is actually produced naturally in the body and aids in the breakdown and absorption of dietary fat. When provided as a medical treatment, Kybella® works to damage existing fat cells and prevent the ability of the cells in that area to store fat. This means that after you have completed your treatment, you should not need to return for another session!

The ideal candidate for Kybella® treatments is an otherwise healthy adult who is close to their desired weight. Good patients for the procedure will have isolated fat pockets below the chin and relatively good skin elasticity. Many patients enjoy the limited downtime involved with the procedure because they’re able to quickly get back to busy lifestyles.

Before you receive a Kybella® treatment, we will carefully examine the area under and around your chin and discuss with you your aesthetic goals. Please be sure to inform us of all medical conditions, including past cosmetic treatments, and any medications you are taking.

Results from Kybella® are gradual and progressive. You will not see instant results with this minimally-invasive procedure. Typically, initial results can be seen in about 2-weeks as dead fat cells are naturally flushed from the body. Gradual improvement will continue to occur upwards of 2-3 months at which point you will see an optimal outcome. Kybella sessions occur at 6 week intervals, and typically 2-4 treatments are required, but up to 6 may be needed.

Permanent Makeup

General Questions

Unfortunately, not everyone is a candidate for permanent makeup/tattooing. We want each of our clients to get the absolute best results possible, and not every skin type accommodates that. The following list disqualifies you from currently receiving permanent makeup/tattooing. If you have specific questions, please contact us directly!

You are not a candidate if you are…

  • Pregnant or breastfeeding
  • Currently using or have been on Accutane within the last 12 months
  • Have a freshly tanned/sunburned face/body
  • Rosacea (permanent makeup clients only)
  • Are taking blood thinning medications (may be a candidate for ombre brows, please contact me to discuss).
  • Are currently undergoing treatment for cancer.
  • Chemotherapy or Radiation treatment within last 6 months.
  • Under the age of 18 year old.
Oily Skin: (Permanent make-up clients only) Increased oil production can cause hair strokes to blur and fade very quickly, or not stick at all. If you have combination or oily skin, you are a candidate for nano brows or powder brows, but not for microblading.

Sun Exposure: Increased exposure to the sun will cause premature fading. I recommend all my clients use sunscreen to protect their permanent makeup and/or tattooing during sun exposure.

Excessive Bleeding: Excessive bleeding during your procedure will greatly affect how your body retains pigment. Pinpoint bleeding throughout the procedure is normal, but excessive bleeding causes pigment to fade very quickly and heal ashy. While bleeding is not entirely in our control, it is important that you follow before care instructions to help minimize bleeding. This includes avoiding blood thinning medications and alcohol 24 hours before your procedure.

While pain tolerance does vary between clients, most clients report little to no pain throughout their procedure. We have even had clients fall asleep during their appointments! To ensure your comfort, topical anesthetics are used throughout the procedure. Having the procedure during your menstrual cycle may increase your sensitivity. So planning accordingly can help.

Brow questions

Microblading is a form of permanent makeup where a small blade is used to create individual hair-like strokes throughout the brow. This is a semi-permanent procedure, with results lasting 1-3 years.

Microblading is meant to be a natural enhancement, and to create the appearance of full, beautiful brows. This service is best for clients who have fuller brow hair, and are looking to naturally perfect their shape and add fullness. This procedure is not ideal for those who have sparse/absent brow hair. If you are looking for a filled in/makeup look, combination or ombre/powder brows are a better fit for you!

Microblading heals best on young, normal/dry skin. Those with combination/oily or mature skin are not candidates for microblading! You are better suited for a combination or ombre/powder brows.

Nano brows is a machine technique that fills in sparse, thin eyebrows for a thicker appearance. The procedure involves the use of a super fine needle to create natural hair-strokes.

This service is a beautiful look for all skin types (including oily skin), and heals very soft and beautiful. This is a great service for those who are not good microblading candidates due to skin type contradictions.

Nano brows do not cut open the skin, but instead implant pigment by the use of a tattoo machine. This causes less trauma to the skin, creates better healed results, and longer lasting results.

After your touch up, healed results can last for several years.

A combination brow service combines hair strokes and machine shading. Results typically last 1-3 years depending on your skin type.

If you have naturally sparse brow hair, no brow hair, or uneven growing brow hair, a combination brow is perfect for you!

Hair strokes are placed in the front of the brow or completely through the brow (We can discuss the difference at your appointment). Then soft shading is blended into the brow to give a more 3D result. This is a great option for those who are looking for a more defined or filled in brow that still has some hair strokes as well. We can add as much or as little shading to give a variety of different looks!

This service is a beautiful look for all skin types (including oily/aging skin), and heals very soft and beautiful.

An ombre brow is also known as a powder brow. This service has no hair strokes and is made up completely by machine shading. It is ideal for all skin types and youthful or mature skin!

An ombre brow is semi-permanent and will fade over time. However, this style will typically last longer than other brow services & creates the least amount of trauma to the skin. Like other types of brow services, this style will fade over time, but does so the most naturally.

Ombre brows may look intense at first, but the results heal about 40% softer, leaving a powdery finish. If you fill in your brows every day and want the least amount of maintenance, this service is right for you!

Permanent makeup is considered a tattoo but is also designed to fade over time. Fading begins over 1-3 years after the procedure is done. Many factors contribute to how fast your tattoo will fade. These include skin type, lifestyle, age, metabolism, medications, and pigment color. The sun and some kinds of lighting (tanning beds) can affect the rate at which these pigments are broken down. Following the given aftercare instructions is critical to getting your best healed results!

Please note that final results vary and CANNOT be guaranteed due to the nature of skin as it heals. A follow-up appointment is STRONGLY recommended in 4-8 weeks after your initial session. This is where we can assess your pigment retention and perfect your permanent makeup! Typically, touching up your brows every 12-18 months (as needed) is most common. Touch-ups are normal and expected for permanent cosmetics.

Initial sessions take 2-3 hours. Touch up appointments take 2 hours.

Preparation for your appointment is very important to ensure good healed results. Failure to properly follow pre care instructions can alter your results. There is also a chance that you could have to forfeit your appointment, so please read the following instructions carefully. (Any cancellations due to your inability to safely prepare will result in a cancellation fee).

2 WEEKS BEFORE YOUR APPOINTMENT

Botox: If you regularly receive Botox or Dysport injections, this must be done at least 14 days prior to your appointment. It takes at least that long to settle in the skin. Receiving these services within 14 days of your appointment will result in the cancellation of your appointment.

Waxing/Threading/Tinting: There’s no need to have your brows waxed or threaded prior to your appointment. I will clean them up as part of your service. If you do need to have them maxed/threaded beforehand, please do so at least 2 weeks prior to your appointment. If you tint or use henna on your brows, please do so at least 7 days prior to your appointment.

Retin-A: Please refrain from using any retin-a products in the brow area for 2 weeks prior to your appointment.

24 HOURS BEFORE YOUR APPOINTMENT

Please avoid alcohol and excessive caffeine 24 hours prior to your appointment to help minimize bleeding. Avoid blood thinning medications such as Ibuprofen, Advil, and Fish Oil unless advised by a doctor. DO NOT stop taking any prescribed medications from your doctors without their approval first.

It is important that you plan ahead! Please map directions to the studio. I have a strict 15 minute late policy, so please plan ahead to make sure you know how long the commute to the studio takes, and plan for traffic if appropriate.

DAY OF YOUR APPOINTMENT

Makeup: Makeup is potential! We will be taking a lot of before and after photos, so come however you are most comfortable. Brow clients, if you regularly fill in your brows, then wearing brow makeup is a good idea. This helps me see your regular shape and color preference. No makeup? You can just bring it along too. Any inspo pics? Bring those too! We can discuss whether that look is achievable and talk in depth about your permanent make up goals!

RELAX: Feeling nervous is normal. We are going to work together to create your dream brows! It is my goal to give you the best possible experience and outcome! You are a part of the entire process, from designing and shaping your brows, to color selection, etc! So take a deep breath and start getting excited!
Immediately after getting your brows done, you may experience minor redness or swelling around the treated area, which typically goes away within 24 hours. Over the next few hours, the pigment in the skin will oxidize, making the brows look darker and warmer (red) than they were initially. This is normal and expected. Pigment typically fades anywhere from 20-40% once fully healed.

Around day 3-4, you may notice light scabbing and flaking on the treated area. This is normal! Please refrain from picking at the brows. Doing so will result in loss of pigment in those areas and can cause scarring. Brows may appear spotty or patchy until the entire brow has finished healing. Once all the flaking is complete (usually around day 10), the brows will appear much lighter. The pigment will darken over the next 4-6 weeks and the pigment will return to the skin in its healed color.

In 4-8 weeks, your brows will be fully healed. Whatever pigment does not return will be addressed at your touch up appointment. At this appointment, we will assess your retention, touch up the spots that didn’t stick, and can adjust the pigment color to give you perfect brows!
Following the given aftercare is crucial to obtain the best results! All clients are expected to follow the following instructions exactly to get the best healed results! All products needed for your aftercare will be provided to you at your appointment.

Wash morning and night for 7 days with cleanse provided. Wash brows within 4 hours of getting brows done. (Make sure to wash outside of the shower. Look in the mirror while washing so you can make sure to be extra gentle. Only pat dry in the direction of the hair growth, no circles or hard rubbing. Wash with warm or cool water. No hot water).

Keep dry until completely healed (besides washing twice a day). AKA no scabbing or flaking left. This is usually 10 days.

Keep dry in shower. Steamy hot showers will cause the pores to open and scabs to soften, so be cautious, no extra hot showers. Avoid the water, especially shampoo and conditioner running down onto your brows… that can cause discoloration.

  • NO excessive sweating
  • NO pools, saunas, hot tubs, etc.
  • DO NOT pick, rub, or scratch scabs! AVOID sleeping on your face!
  • AVOID direct sun exposure for 2 weeks
  • AVOID DIRECT SUN EXPOSURE FOR 2 WEEKS
  • DO NOT apply any anti aging or acne products direct to your brows. This will cause fading very quickly! Anything with chemical exfoliants, such as retinol, glycolic acid, and salicylic acid, etc.
  • APPLY the aftercare cream that is provided to you 3 times a day with a q-tip. If your skin is oily, only apply the cream 2 times a day. Use the balm for the first 10 days. Only a rice grain size is needed for each brow. Your aftercare ointment will last you through your initial visit and touch up! Use it sparingly.

Yes! Permanent makeup is a two-step process, and a touch up is strongly recommended to get the best results. Also known as the “perfecting session”, a touch up is done 4-8 weeks after your initial session. This is where we assess your retention, perfect the shape and color, and add more dimension. Touch ups are very important and add to the overall results and longevity of your permanent makeup.

After the initial two step process, most clients prefer to touch up their permanent makeup annually.

We require that anyone who has had their brows tattooed by another artist to text me a picture before booking an appointment. This way we can discuss price, your options, and schedule sufficient time. Any client coming to us from a different artist is considered a new client, with full prices.

**Not all previous work can be covered up. You may require removal first. To work over old permanent makeup, it usually needs to be faded at least 80% to be successfully covered.

**All artists use different pigments, techniques, and stroke patterns. For that reason, we will not “touch up” another artist's work.

Yes! Scrubd Esthetics does offer saline tattoo removal and emergency removal of permanent makeup and small tattoos. Please continue through our FAQ page to the Saline Removal section to read more about these services and how to schedule your removal today.

Eye enhancement Questions

Eye enhancements are a form or permanent makeup utilizing a machine to apply eyeliner in the shape of a wing, wedge, or slight addition to the lash lines. This beautiful form of liner accentuates and enhances the shape., color, and size of your eyes.

Eyeliner tattoos can add depth, definition, and lift to your eyes so that they appear larger and more striking. The lashes will also appear thicker and fuller.

For those who prefer a more subtle look, the lash enhancement will define and frame your eyes by applying a thin line of color between the lashes to create a fuller, thicker appearance.

This procedure is the perfect solution for anyone with allergies to cosmetics, contact lens sensitivity, dexterity issues, vision problems, and/or an active lifestyle.

Please stop using all lash serums for a minimum of 3 months prior to your permanent eyeliner procedure. These serums are stimulants and can make your eyelids too fragile and vascular for cosmetic tattooing. As a result, your eyelids can bleed, bruise, and pigment can migrate to unwanted areas.

  • Eyeliner tattoo is not recommended for anyone who has used eyelash growth serum of any kind in the last 3 months.
  • Eyeliner tattoo is not recommended for those with vascular eyelids (visible veins the eyelids).

Using serums or having vascular eyelids can cause pigment to migrate into places on the lids that are undesirable. For this reason, you must stop using serums until your eyeliner has healed. If you have vascular lids, eye enhancement procedures may not be the best solutions for you.

Please reach out to Scrubd Esthetics directly with any questions or concerns.

Eyeliner tattoos will last 3-5 years, however, the color retention varies according to the individuals skin types, lifestyle, body chemistry, and age.

Factors that affect longevity: the thicker the skin, the pigment will fade faster), and sun exposure (utilizing sunscreen will preserve your permanent make up longer).

After the treatment, your eyelids may become bruised or swollen. Ice packs will be provided at your appointment. You can also use ice at home to help reduce swelling.

It is normal for there to be fading of the color during the first 2 weeks and patchy sections, as the skin is still healing, and the pigment will return to the surface in about 30 days. The outcome will be subtle.

Please review and follow your aftercare instructions as closely as possible. Any lack of adherence to these instructions will affect your healed results.

After the initial two step process, most clients prefer to touch up their permanent makeup annually.

Your skin will be temporarily sensitized after the treatment and you should adhere to the following instructions for the next 10 days.

Do:
  • Wash the site gently and apply ointment 2 times per day
  • With eyes closed wash the site gently with gentle soap and warm water using your hands only. (baby shampoo is ideal)
  • Blot the area dry. Do not rub with a towel.
  • With eyes closed massage ointment in gently for 10 seconds and then gently blot off the excess goo. Be careful to not get any ointment in the eyes as it will burn.
  • After blotting, the area should not be oily or greasy to the touch. Allow the skin to breathe.
  • Sleep slightly elevated for the first few nights to reduce swelling. Apply ice as needed.
  • Wait 6 weeks for full healing prior to deciding if you require a touch up. Color will fade 30-40%.

Do Not:
  • Do not let the area dry out completely, since this can cause scabbing and cracking of skin surface.
  • Do not touch the treated area.
  • Do not use creams or make up on the treated areas, only the ointment given to you as aftercare.
  • Do not get facial treatments such as eyelash tinting, perming or lifting until healed.
  • Do not use abrasive materials such as rough towels or similar.
  • Do not take hot baths, saunas or other heat treatments.
  • Do not sunbathe, use sunbeds or go swimming.
  • Do not participate in hot yoga/spin class for 10 days. Moderate exercise is ok.
  • Do not wear makeup for 5 days. If you apply makeup you do so at your own risk.
  • If small scabs appear on the treated area, DO NOT TOUCH THEM. They will fall off in a few days.

Saline Tattoo Removal questions

Saline tattoo removal is a procedure that uses a saline solution to draw tattoo ink or pigment out of the skin. It can be used to lighten or fully remove small tattoos and/or permanent makeup.

This procedure has some similarities to both tattooing and microblading techniques, since it involves puncturing the skin to deposit a solution. Tattoo ink remains in liquid form after being deposited into the skin. Saline tattoo removal uses an osmosis effect to draw unwanted pigment out of the skin completely.

Through osmosis, saline removal persuades the cells to release the ink or pigment. Osmosis relies on the principle of equalization. When there is a semipermeable membrane that has a more highly concentrated solution on one side, water tends to move across the membrane toward that concentrated solution in an attempt to create equal conditions on each side.

When saline is injected into the skin, water is pulled up from the cells of the dermis, and some of the pigment comes along for the ride. A scab forms on the open wound created by the saline injection, and the pigment becomes part of the scab. New cell growth begins below, and the scab eventually falls off, taking the pigment with it.
Saline removal takes an average of 6-10 sessions to completely remove pigments. To fade permanent makeup for cover ups, typically a lesser number of sessions is required. All permanent makeup must be 80% faded before it can successfully be covered up.

The number of sessions varies per client and depends on your removal goals. If you want to fully remove an unwanted tattoo or PMU, the number of sessions will be substantially higher than fading the work to cover it up. For example, complete removal might take 11 saline tattoo removal sessions as opposed to 5 or 6 for partial fading. The exact number will depend on how your body responds to the treatment.

The number of sessions needed also depends on the color of the ink being removed. Darker shades often take longer than lighter shades to remove or lighten.

We make no guarantee on the number of sessions your removal will require. As mentioned, several variables can impact the number of sessions you require to achieve your desired outcome. Typical sessions take about 1.5 hours to complete.
The day of your treatment, the area will feel tender and might feel like it’s been burned. It may look very red, similar to a brush burn.

First several days: The area will scab over.

One week later: The area remains scabbed over.

Two weeks later: The scab has probably fallen off. The skin still looks pink or discolored and appears fragile, as it’s still healing.

One month later: The skin is looking more normal by now.

Two months later: The area has completely healed (hopefully!) and is ready for the next session. Your next session will be scheduled in 6-8 weeks.

Follow these guidelines exactly to speed the recovery process. Standard tattoo removal aftercare guidelines for saline removal include the following:
  • Don’t cover the area
  • Leave the area alone while healing. Don’t wash or pick at it. Avoid lotions and soaps.
  • Keep the area out of the sun.
  • Avoid activities that cause sweating, as well as immersing the area in water, until the scab has completely fallen off.
  • Allow the scab to fall off on its own!
  • Apply vitamin E oil as directed after the scab falls off.

This is a highly effective treatment for fine lines, dull appearance, dry rough texture, sun damage and pigmentation.

A chemical peel is a procedure in which a chemical solution is applied to the skin to exfoliate and remove the top layers. This procedure is used to treat wrinkles, discolored skin and scars — usually on the face. They can be done alone or combined with other cosmetic procedures.

Chemical peels can be done at different depths, from light to deep. Deeper chemical peels offer more-dramatic results but also take longer to recover from. At Scrubd Esthetics we offer light to medium depth peels.

  • Light chemical peel. A light (superficial) chemical peel removes the outer layer of skin (epidermis). It's used to treat fine wrinkles, acne, uneven skin tone and dryness. You might have a light peel every two to five weeks.
  • Medium chemical peel. A medium chemical peel removes skin cells from the epidermis and from portions of the upper part of your middle layer of skin (dermis). It's used to treat wrinkles, acne scars and uneven skin tone. You might need to repeat the procedure to achieve or maintain the desired result.

Chemical peels can't remove deep scars or wrinkles or tighten sagging skin.

The 3-step Peel is more in-depth and does require some social downtime of about 5-7 days. Post treatment you will experience some redness, slight burning or tingling sensation, and over the next several days you will have sheet peeling of the top layer of your skin. Please plan life events and vacations accordingly. You do not want to be in the healing stages during these events.
